The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old man, Sanusi Sada, of Kwado Quarters, Katsina, for being in possession of CFA2m suspected to be counterfeits.
The command’s spokesman, Gambo Isah, who confirmed the arrest to journalists, said Sada was nabbed last Thursday while attempting to dupe an unsuspecting member of the public.
The police spokesman said investigation into the matter was ongoing.
In an interview with journalists at the police headquarters, where he was paraded for the alleged offence, Sada said he bought the fake notes from an unidentified man in Lagos.
According to Sada, the man sold the money to him after he paid for his meal.
The suspect, however, admitted that he was aware that the currencies were fake.
The police spokesman also disclosed other arrests made by the command, including members of a syndicate, who allegedly snatched motorcycles from commercial cyclists.
He said, “On November 27 at about 1500hours, based on a tip-off, the command succeeded in arresting a notorious syndicate that specialises in attacking Okada riders and robbing them of their motorcycles.”
