The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old driver identified as Solomon Boniface Okon, for allegedly disappearing with his madam’s Honda CRV Jeep in Ibadan.
According to a report by New Telegraph reports, the owner of the car, Mrs. Olufunke Obada, said that the suspect had not worked with her for a month before he stole her car. The suspect was tracked by police detectives to Akwa Ibom State, where the car, marked LSR 782 DF, was recovered. Okon confessed to the crime, but pleaded for mercy as he blamed his action on the devil.
The Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abiodun Odude, said: “Okon, an employee of Madam Obada, absconded with his boss’s Honda CRV Jeep. Having successfully stolen the car, he escaped to Akwa Ibom where he was arrested by our FSARS men.”
The police boss added: “The suspect was arrested in his hideout in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. Upon his arrest, he led the operatives to a hotel in the same town where the jeep was recovered.”
Okon, however, insisted that he didn’t know why he stole his boss’s car, even as he asked for clemency.
His words: “It’s true that I took my boss’s jeep to Akwa Ibom, where I was arrested. I took madam to the University College Hospital (UCH) on that fateful day, but I don’t know what came over me. I just decided to take the vehicle to Akwa Ibom where I intended to sell it. The Police should take it easy with me. I was aware that they came to Akwa Ibom four times to look for me, before I was eventually arrested. The police should please have mercy.”
Obada said: “If not for our diligent policemen, we would not have caught the culprit. I employed Okon less than a month now. On that fateful day, I asked him to take me to the hospital for my medical check-up. I was however shocked when I came out of the ward to discover that my vehicle had been taken away. Since then, the police had been hunting for him.”
